College Credit Placement Testing

Prior to registering for college-credit classes, students are required to present test scores from one or more of the following common placement examinations: PERT, SAT, ACT or Accuplacer's Computerized Placement Test/FELPT (Florida Entry-Level Placement Test). Scores must be current, which means from within two years of starting classes at BCC. Students without current test scores or those scoring below the state-mandated college ready cutoff scores shown on the chart below, shall be tested for reading, writing, and/or mathematics proficiency using the Florida Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT).  Students earning less than college ready must enroll in college preparatory courses in the area(s) of the deficiency.  

Students whose scores require preparatory courses must begin those prep studies by the time they have accumulated 12 hours of lower-division college credit coursework. That means full-time students who are registered for at least twelve (12) credits, must begin preparatory instruction during their first term. Part-time students must enroll prior to completing twelve (12) credits. A student may continue enrollment in some college-credit courses provided the student maintains enrollment in college-preparatory coursework for each subsequent semester until college-prep requirements are completed.
