August 28, 2012 - An experienced educator who has served in top academic posts at Brevard Community College has been named to a new position to help BCC become a state college offering four-year degrees next year.
Dr. Jayne Gorham, who has been serving as Dean of Academic/Curriculum Support, has been named Associate Vice President for Planning and Assessment.
She will play a key role in BCC gaining reaffirmation of its accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as BCC expands its mission and offers Bachelor of Applied Science Degrees in Organizational Management starting in August 2013.
Dr. Gorham has already done considerable work in the field, coordinating many of the SACS initiatives underway at the College.
The appointment was recently announced by BCC President, Dr. Jim Richey, who said Gorham’s experience makes her a perfect fit for the job.
“Dr. Gorham has extensive knowledge of the College’s academic programs and is a proven leader, skills that are essential to complete the work necessary for BCC during the SACS re-accreditation process,” said Richey. “She’s an excellent individual with a strong record of success at the College.”
Dr. Gorham will report to Dr. Linda Miedema, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chief Learning Officer.
Dr. Gorham has held a variety of positions at BCC since she joined the College in 1992. They include Director of Workforce Programs, Director of Academic Technology, Dean of Collegewide Teaching, Learning and Technology and Associate Provost for Workforce. She was named Dean of Academic/Curriculum Support in 2011.
Dr. Gorham also received the College’s VIP Award in 2001, 2003 and 2005, which recognizes exemplary employees.
She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Radio & Television and Master’s Degree in Instructional Systems Design from the University of Central Florida. She received her doctorate in Instructional Technology and Distance Education from Nova Southeastern University.
“The journey to SACS reaffirmation, our accrediting body, gives BCC the opportunity to further advance the institution and improve student learning as we continue to promote the highest degree of excellence in education,” said Dr. Gorham. “I’m honored to be a part of this important process.”
